Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Board, the employees will respond Ambulance 15 to emergencies call’s to provide EMS Rescue, and any other assistance the public requires.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Examine and evaluate patients to determine necessary care

  • Provide patients with emergency care by utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment

  • Document patient information, condition, and treatment

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and perform all care with respect for patient rights

  • Transport patients in accordance with outlined policies and procedures

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment for patients

  • Operate and drive ambulance in conjunction with applicable safety policies and laws

  • Provide basic life support and gather patient data

  • Daily check out of assigned vehicle, and through inspection of the apparatus.

  • Be responsible for day to day administrative duties.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with the public, other employees, and volunteer personnel.

  • Function and maintain composure in life-or-death decisions during emergency and/or adverse conditions.

  • Operate both as a member of a team and independently at incidents of uncertain duration.

  • Analyze situations quickly and objectively and to recognize actual and potentially dangerous situations, and to determine the proper course of action.

  • Read and write the English language in a fluent, comprehensible, and concise manner.  Communicate clearly and concisely in both written and oral form.  Must be able to compose and submit reports in a clear, concise, and complete manner.  Reports must be thorough and easily understood by both fire professionals and the public.

  • Learn and use basic computer skills.

Conditions of Employment

  •  Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Tour of Duty: 12-hour shifts, 6am to 6pm.

  • Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.

  • Physical Requirements: Required (Incumbent will be highly encouraged to participate in a physical fitness and wellness program during duty hours.)

  • Individual must complete a pre-employment medical to determine the reasonable likelihood of a EMT/Firefighter’s ability to execute the arduous and rigorous essential functions of fire suppression and rescue.

  • Must pass physical agility test.

Working Conditions and Hazards

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Work inside and outside, exposure to all extremes of the environment.  Experience frequent transition form hot to cold and from humid to dry atmospheres.  Work in wet, icy, or muddy areas.  Work in or to be exposed to areas containing toxic and non-toxic fumes, dusts, and gases.  Perform a variety of tasks on slippery and/or hazardous surfaces such as rooftops or from ladders.  Work in areas where sustaining traumatic or thermal injuries is possible.  Exposed to all hazards of firefighting, hazardous materials, and medical responses.  May be required to perform duties while faced with traumatic and emotionally challenging situations in course of duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Position normally full use of sight, hearing, speech, arms, hands, legs, and feet; lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
     

Qualifications

  • To qualify for a EMT, your resume and supporting documentation must support:

  • Specialized Experience: 

  • One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable
    specialized experience includes:
    •    Performing or assisting in rescue operations.
    •    Performing basic life support to include transporting to local hospitals.
    •    Determining proper emergency response/equipment needs in an emergency.
    •    Driving and operating emergency vehicles.

Certifications
(must be current)

  • Haz-Mat Awareness

  • EVOC

  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 

  • Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (PA DOH) or National Registry

Licenses

  • Valid State Driver's License

Education

  • High School Diploma
